A Quick Guide to Industrial Belt Drive,

Two or more rotating shafts are used in a belt with a loop of flexible material. To transmit power efficiently, belts may be used as a source of motion. The shafts need not be parallel; belts are looped over pulleys & may have a bend between the pulleys. The belt can either drive the pulleys frequently in one direction, / the belt may be crossed, so that the direction of the driven shaft is upside down in a 2 pulley system.

A conveyor belt is one application as a source of action where the belt is personalized to take a load constantly between two points. By using different sized pulleys, the belt drive can also be used to change the speed of rotation.

TYPES OF BELT DRIVE

1. OPEN BELT DRIVE

The open belt drive is used with shafts arranged parallel & rotating in the equal direction. In that case, the driver pulls the belt from one side & delivers it to the other side.

Thus, the tension in the upper side belt is lower than the lower side belt. The upper side belt is known as the loose side belt, the lower side belt is recognized as the tight side belt.

2. CLOSED OR CROSSED BELT DRIVE

With rotating shafts in parallel & opposite directions, cross / twisted belt drives are used. In this case, the driver pulls the belt from one side & delivers it to the other side.

Thus, the tension at the base Side of the belt will be higher than at the upper side of the belt. Due to high tension, the belt is known as the tight side, while due to low tension the belt is known as the slack side.

3. FAST & LOOSE CONE PULLEY

When the driven or machine shaft is to be started or stopped, this type of belt drive is used whenever desired without interfering with the driving shaft. A pulley that is keyed to the machine shaft is called a fast pulley & runs at the same speed as that of the machine shaft.

A movable pulley runs freely over the machine shaft & is unable of transmitting any power. The belt is pushed onto the movable pulley through a sliding bar having belt forks when the driven shaft is needed to be stopped.

Conclusion: Industrial belt drive work on a particular method. The above article provides detailed information on different industrial valves such as open belt drive, closed and crossed belt drive, and fast and cone pulley. Through this information, people will get more idea about its working process.
